The mechanical fitter works in companies in the field of technology, installing machines and equipment, and runs tests, does inspections and maintenance. The mechanical fitter also repairs machine parts by welding or machining. The mechanical fitter can specialise for example in machinery, (forest machines, mining vehicles, farming machines) or in the installation and assembly of equipment (power stations, automated systems).
The machine fitter can also specialise in maintenance tasks in different industrial areas or as a field mechanic. In maintenance and field mechanic work the mechanical fitter locates and repairs faults, and also does necessary preliminary installation work.
