Participation is open to young people studying for a qualification in vocational education who have been born in 1991 or after. The vocational basic degree training refers to an education that will lead to a basic degree, or that is a preliminary training in an institute or as an apprentice.


The most applicable study lines for competitors signing up for the category of Industrial

 

Control are:


-Study programme in Automation Technology and Maintenance
-Study programme in Electrical Engineering and Energy Technology
-Study programme in Electrical Engineering and Automation Technology


The Basis for the category degree


The competition tasks of this category are based on the curriculum-based training of a basic vocational degree in Electrical Engineering and on the requirements of level 3 (on a scale of 1-3).

General Description of the Category


The category is based on the on the curriculum-based training of a basic vocational degree in Electrical Engineering and the study programme in Automation Technology and Maintenance, and upon the demands that working life sets for young employees, and also to some extent upon the category description of Industrial Control in the World Skills Competition. The degree holder works mainly in installation and maintenance.

Eight competitors will be chosen in the Semi-Finals to compete in the Finals.
In the Semi-finals, there can be 3 competitors per institute.


Preparation for the Semi-Finals


Semi-finalists have a large preliminary task to be done before the actual competition.
Each competitor builds an automation centre.


Instructions for the preliminary task to be brought to the semi-finals:


The skill requirements for the open semi-finals task are based on the curriculum-based training of a basic vocational degree in Electrical Engineering and automation assembler (20 study points), and on the requirements of level 3 (on a scale of 1-3).


The actual semi-final task, which will be altered or increased by 30% (in function and wiring) will be published on our web pages later.


Finals Timetable


The Finals take place May 3-5, 2011.


Skill Requirements, the successful competitor should know
The curriculum based training of a basic vocational degree in Electrical Engineering and study programme in Automation Technology and Maintenance (20 study points)
Finals, Description of task, scope, and time allowed for competition
The preliminary competition task will be published on the web pages at least 2 months before the Finnish National Finals begin.

Preliminary Evaluation Methods


The jury is made up of representatives from working life and of teachers. The judges will decide the ranking of the competitors by giving points to each competitor. The World Skills CIS point system will be used in which the maximum points for each category is 100. The performances are evaluated every day. The final evaluation criteria will be decided by the jury and the supervisory group.


In case that a competitor risks his/her own or someone else's safety, it is possible to disqualify the competitor.


The evaluation forms are given to the head judge and sent to be calculated within one hour after each competition task is completed. The jury will give oral feedback daily. The results are published daily.


The number of competitors

Size of the competition area


The area is approximately 185 sq m, of which the competitor's area is approximately 3.3 x 4 m = 13.2 sq m.


Machines and equipment to be used in the competition


The Taitaja2011 Industrial control competition category includes water processing, as in the Taitaja 2010 competition, and the related instrumentation and automation machines and equipment for the competition tasks.


The competitor has the use of:


A laptop computer with the required programs. The organisers provide the computer and ensure it is functioning properly.

 

Materials


The organisers provide the materials for the competition


Taitaja 2011 Diploma


Competitors will be given a certificate for completed competition tasks. The certificate can be used as a basis for evaluation of vocational skills demonstration. The competition tasks of this category are based on the requirements of level 3 (on a scale of 1-3) as described in the curriculum-based training of a vocational degree.

-General core knowledge in all areas
-Cooperative skills


The basis for the evaluation will be given in the evaluation discussion.
The Taitaja Diploma will be given out on Saturday in connection with the award ceremony.
